Wave of Iraq attacks kill four
A wave of attacks involving car bombs and suicide blasts and the storming of a police compound in the western Iraqi city of Ramadi left four people dead and 19 wounded yesterday.
The coordinated blasts and shootings began at around 11:30 am (0830 GMT), with insurgents and police still exchanging gunfire at around 2:30 pm (1130 GMT), according to officials speaking on condition of anonymity.
Three initial car bombs – two of which were near a mosque – in central Ramadi left three people wounded, according to a police official and a medic at the city’s main hospital.
A subsequent car bomb followed by two suicide attacks at the police compound, then stormed by gunmen, killed four police and wounded 16 others, the officials said.
