‘Utterly deplorable’ US video: Panetta
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta yesterday strongly condemned an “utterly deplorable” video, broadcast by Afghan TV Tolo News, that purportedly shows US Marines urinating on dead insurgents in Afghanistan, and vowed to hold accountable any soldiers involved.
“This conduct is entirely inappropriate for members of the United States military and does not reflect the standards or values our armed forces are sworn to uphold,” Panetta said.
The Pentagon chief said in a statement that he has ordered the Marine Corps and the International Security Assistance Force in Kabul to conduct an investigation.
“Those found to have engaged in such conduct will be held accountable to the fullest extent,” Panetta said.
