Macau vs Hong Kong rugby match today
The Macau Rugby Club (MRC) will host an exhibition game between Macau’s senior rugby team, SJM Macau, and Hong Kong Football Club Select XV today at 4pm at the Canidrome Stadium.
The game is endorsed and supported by Macau Sports Institute (IDM) and entrance is free.
The MRC, created in 1996 by a group of local former players that wanted to promote the game in Macau, has been a full member of the Asian Rugby Football Union since December 2004. SJM Macau has in the past played the national teams of Pakistan, Cambodia and Indonesia and regularly participates in regional tournaments such as the Guangzhou Tens, Manila Tens, the Phuket Tens and the Kowloon Tens.
The Macau Bats, Macau’s mini-rugby team, was formally created last year and comprises children who regularly attend training sessions held on Saturday mornings at Taipa Stadium.
MRC has more than 60 children playing rugby in Macau and will host a mini-rugby tournament on Sunday the January 31 with teams from Hong Kong.
