On May 13, 1984 Teledifusão de Macau(TDM) kicked off its first broadcast. In the beginning, the project belonged to the former Portuguese government and the team was formed with staff from Portugal’s state television channel RTP and local Portuguese and Cantonese-speaking staff.

Celebrating 25 years this year, TDM is preparing to launch another three new channels – Sports Channel,Life Channel and Satellite Channel – separate to the existing channels. The television station is currently digitalising production which is still in analog system. The high point of the commemorative festivities was on May 24 with a live show which included several local artists broadcasted live for the Chinese channel audience and later screened on the Portuguese channel.

On May 25 TDM held a seminar on “Macau as a platform for the cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries in the Television domain” at the Venetian Macao Resort, where the company’s head Manuel Gonçalves explained the importance of having a “strong” cooperation to guarantee the exchange of contents and information between TV stations from China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
