The last day of the Chinese New Year period which is the15th day of the 1st month, is called Yuanxiao Festival or Lantern Festival. The word Yuanxiao is a combination of two words: Yuan, meaning night, and Xiao, which meant in the old times, the first lunar month. There are many versions about the origin of this event. One version says that the festivity started with an emperor of the Han dynasty. He ascended the throne on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, so, every year, on that day, he goes out and mingles with the populace.
