Artists returning from abroad at Ox Warehouse

Nine local artists will showcase their works at the cultural association Ox Warehouse, from February 12 to April 4. It is not only an exhibition, but also a meeting between artists who one day decided to go abroad to study or work and now they are back to Macau.
“Reincarnate – Collective Exhibition of Macau Artists returning from abroad” has invited nine of these young artists, architect and poet to showcase their works at the main gallery of the Ox Warehouse.
The opening is scheduled for this Friday at 3pm.
In order to explore the theme more thoroughly, every artist has been asked to choose one of their previous works while still studying abroad, and to “re-incarnate” them by introducing additional meanings and new means of expression.
The title of the exhibition “Re-incarnate” suggests a return to the origin but at the same time a re-interpretation of what is now. In Chinese traditions, reincarnation comes from the Buddhist idea of “Samara”, the endless cycle of cause and effect.
In the process of giving a new form and meaning to their previous works, the “Past Tense” is transformed into the “Present Tense”.
The exhibition not only shows the common background of these artists who have all been studying outside of Macau, but it also reflects their current conditions as part of Macau now.
Kent Ieong is the curator of the exhibition, being helped by artist Alice Kok. Catherine Cheong, Gigi Lee, Ryan Leong, Susanna Un, Ka Lon Ao, Ieng Wai Lei, Ka Long Wong, Ka Cheng Ho and Jeff Wong are the nine local artists participating in this exhibition.
The Ox Warehouse is located near the Red Market. It is the quarter set up by a group of Macau artists called Old Ladies’ House Art Space and holds regular exhibitions in various media, as well as offers workshops for adults and children in drawing, music, and other forms of art.
