More than 2 million visitors last month
Total visitor arrivals to Macau increased 6.7 percent year-on-year to 2.04 million last month, according to information released yesterday by the Statistics and Census Service.
Analysed by place of residence, visitors from Mainland, accounting for nearly 50 percent of all visitor arrivals, increased 17.8 percent annually to 1.01 million, while visitors from Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, and Malaysia all decreased in last month.
Visitors from Taiwan and Indonesia rose by 10.8 percent and 29.9 percent respectively, while those from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Japan decreased by 6.9 percent, 4.9 percent, 3.7 percent and 6.5 percent respectively.
Same-day visitors accounted for 48.4 percent of the total visitor arrivals, with 487,142 coming from Mainland.
Visitor arrivals totalled 21,752,751 for the whole of last year, down by 5.1 percent year-on-year, with visitors from Mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia dropping by 5.4 percent, 4.1 percent, 1.8 percent and 22.4 percent respectively, while those from Japan registered an increase of 3.4 percent.
For the whole year, same-day visitors accounted for 52.2 percent of the total visitor arrivals, at 11,350,852.
Analysed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by sea totalled 8,684,809 last year, down by 5.3 percent year-on-year, as visitors arriving at the Outer Harbour decreased by 17.5 percent to 5,997,964 whereas those arriving at the Taipa Ferry Terminal rose by 56.3 percent to 2,403,344.
Visitor arrivals by land decreased by 5.3 percent year-on-year to 11,448,843 last year, with those arriving through the Border Gate totalling 10,623,814 and the majority were visitors from Mainland and Hong Kong.
Furthermore, visitor arrivals by air went down by 2.8 percent year-on-year to 1,619,099, as visitors arriving at the Macau International Airport dropped by 2.9 percent to 1,583,933, with the majority coming from Taiwan, mainland, Malaysia and Thailand.
