Creative talks about Video Art
Creative Macau will host an open talk on “What is video art?” on Saturday, from 4pm to 7pm. Five artists will share their ideas about this sort of art that is gaining more and more recognition in Macau.
Rui Calçada Bastos (based in Berlin), João Vasco (Hong Kong) and local artists Alice Kok and Jane Lei will be mediated by José Drummond. The talk will be an opportunity to introduce the work of the artists, as well as the concept of video art.
“The trouble with trying to get a grip on video art is that it’s rather like trying to get a grip on a wet bar of soap under the shower: the more you try to tighten the grip, the more prone the soap is to slip out of your grasp. There is, in other words, something elusive about the very nature of video art that seems to resist being summarized in one precise definition. One can even claim that there are as many definitions of video art as there are video practices and video artists,” stresses the press release.
José Drummond will provide a small introduction on the subject “What is Video Art?”,
some general conceptions on the term, followed by some ideas about the different stages of its history.
His presentation will feature images from his work. In addition, the artists will share their experience in video art.
The open talk is included in the Blueprint 2010, the new project of Creative Macau aiming to cooperate with local creative groups, associations and individuals.
