The local Muslim community celebrated on Saturday with religious fervour the Eid-ul-Azha, that concludes the annual pilgrimage of Hajj.
Early in the morning, the Muslims gathered at Macau Mosque at Ramal dos Mouros to participate in the congregational prayers led by Imam Rifaqat of Hong Kong, according to Adnan Nasim, a member of the community.
Yesterday the community sacrificed an animal at the local slaughterhouse to complete the celebration, following religious practices. The animal’s meat was distributed among the poor and needy, and also relatives and friends.
The Eid-ul-Azha is celebrated on the 10th day of Zil-Hajj (12th month of the Islamic lunar calendar). Annual pilgrimage “Hajj” is performed in the month of Hajj. Pilgrims follow the footsteps of Prophet Abraham who is common figure among three great religions of the world Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
This year over 2.3 million Muslims gathered in the holy city of Mecca, surrounding the kaaba shrine inside Mecca’s grand mosque, to perform their religious duty of Hajj, making it the world’s largest annual religious pilgrimage.
