Commerce Ministry ensures food supply to Macau
The vice-minister of Commerce of the Central Government Zhong Shan ensured a safe food supply to Macau and Hong Kong during the Chinese New Year.
Zhong made these remarks during a two-day visit of a delegation from the Central Government to Macau that wrapped up yesterday. Zhong said that the Ministry of Commerce, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the Guangdong province have jointly launched five measures, including a contingency plan, prevention of epidemic diseases and the creation of a 24-hour scheme to ensure the stable supply of agricultural products during the Spring Festival, as well as its safety.
The measure comes after a number of recent food safety cases in the mainland.
According to the vice-minister of Commerce, during last year, the mainland food supply met 100 percent of the local demand. It provided livestock, including pork (95,000), beef (2,800) and chicken (2.7 million).
On the other hand, exports of agricultural products remained stable, such as cereals, vegetables, eggs, milk and drinking water, etc. According to Macau figures, the approval rate of food supplied from China reached 100 percent.
