A public consultation open to all residents regarding the possible revision of the political system will take place on January 18, from 8 pm at the grand auditorium of the Macau Cultural Centre.
Participants have until next Monday to register by fax, e-mail, phone or the consultation’s website.
Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On and the Secretary for Administration and Justice, Florinda Chan, will be present at the consultation session.
A total of 800 seats will be available after the session was moved from the much smaller main hall of the Macau Polytechnic Institute.
This will be the last of eight sessions organised by the government to collect opinions on the revision of local electoral laws for the Legislative Assembly and the Chief Executive. It is also the only one open to all residents.
During the first five consultation sessions, several participants criticised the government for only organising one opportunity for the population to express its views on the political reform.
Each participant will have up to five minutes to share his or her views and the session will last for a maximum of one and a half hours. Participants who do not get the opportunity to speak can write down their opinion and place it in a box placed at the entrance of the auditorium.
