The grave of secretary for Administration and Justice Florinda Chan’s late father is not one of the 10 cemetery plots whose concession is being probed by the Commission against Corruption (CCAC). In a letter sent to Macau Daily Times, Chan explains that her father passed away in 1996. Leal Senado approved the plot application for his permanent grave before the establishment of MSAR in 1999, the secretary assures.
According to local broadcaster TDM, the Public Prosecutions Office is handling a case where a “key administration and justice official” has allegedly abused its power to approve cemetery applications in 2001, in which one of the beneficiaries was Chan’s legal advisor surnamed Cheang. On Tuesday Chan’s office denied any claims of abuse of power. CCAC has launched an investigation.
