Macau hosts cricket festival, in July

In yesterday’s edition, by mistake we published that the first edition of the Macau International Cricket Festival would take place today and tomorrow. The event will only happen on July 24 and 25.
Over ten clubs from all over the region are expected at the Macau University of Science and Technology’s football ground and Macau Cricket Association (MCA) is trying to bring some famous regional teams to participate in the event.
Starting at 8 am, the Festival will be played following the Sixes format, with six players a side and matches consisting of five overs (sets of six consecutive balls bowled in succession). According to MCA, this format “has gained a lot of popularity in this region due to exciting hard-hitting batting and its quick results as one match completes in about 45 minutes and always produce a result.”
Admission is free, because the Association wants to create “a festive atmosphere” at the Festival, “for the whole family to join together and enjoy a great weekend in Macau.” Despite being only the first edition, MCA intends to turn it into an annual event “adding an additional flavour to Macau’s tourism attractions.”

This is a very reduced form of the game. In international matches the game continues for five days. In the past games went on for longer. Even matches between school teams in England take eight hours!
