A 29-member delegation from the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB) visited Macau on Saturday and met with Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On and Legislative Assembly president Lau Cheok Va.
DAB chairman Tam Yiu Chung said he had confidence in the prospects of Macau and stressed that cooperation between Hong Kong and Macau can be established in various areas besides tourism after the completion of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.
Since 2002 and 2003 the DAB came to Macau again last weekend. They first had lunch with Fernando Chui Sai On and Lau Cheok Va at Santa Sancha, where the Chief Executive introduced to them the future development of Macau including the University of Macau’s Hengqin campus and the 300-hectare land reclamation project.
The two sides also discussed issues regarding employment, education and property prices in Hong Kong and Macau.
Tam Yiu Chung said that DAB is “happy” to see Macau companies hire workers from Hong Kong. He said Hong Kong’s and Macau’s living standards and income levels are similar to each other, adding the importation of Hong Kong labour has “relatively less impact” on Macau.
After the meeting the DAB delegation visited the Science Centre and the Mandarin’s House as well as attended the dinner hosted by the Chinese Liaison Office in Macau.
Before they returned to Hong Kong yesterday afternoon they also went to inspect Hengqin Island.
