Macau Studio City’s queried on delay
The Government has demanded that Macau’s Studio City promoters explain delays in starting construction on the project.
According to a letter reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, and signed by the Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT) director, Jaime Carion, the Government has threatened to invalidate or terminate the land rights for the project unless a satisfactory reason is given for the delay.
The parties had one month from the date of the letter, April 14, to respond, according to The Wall Street Journal. The Government announced recently it would ask developers to hand back the undeveloped plots of land they were given, if no satisfactory reasons were presented for the delay in construction.
According to DSSOPT, currently there are around 100 cases of plots recorded as being left undeveloped “for several years.” Of those, over 20 cases are classified as the “more serious” ones.
