Former chief executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah and former Legislative Assembly president Susana Chou were called as witnesses in the fifth court case related to disgraced former official Ao Man Long’s corruption scandal, the Portuguese news agency Lusa reported Thursday.
Both Ho and Susana Chou no longer enjoy the privileges of high-ranking officials, which would have allowed them to answer to the court’s questions in written form, according to Lusa.
This is the first time that they have been called as witnesses and the appearance dates have not yet been made public.
Edmund Ho and Susana Chou, along with several lawmakers, were called as witnesses by the defense for one of the 13 defendants in this fifth related-court case. Most of the defendants are accused of having paid bribes to the ex-secretary.
The trial at the Lower Court (TJB) is scheduled to continue on Wednesday. Last session was marked by a four-hour accusation reading, with the president of the TJB collegial panel, judge Mario Augusto Silvestre, detailing the construction works and projects involved in the bribery case.
Apart from the five related court cases in which Ao was not a defendant, the former secretary for Transportation and Public Works has already faced two trials and been jailed for 28-and-a-half years on charges of corruption, money laundering and abuse of power.
