Macau in flu peak season
A children’s home in Penha Hill reported collective flu cases yesterday and the Health Bureau (SS) reminded people that Macau has entered the influenza peak season.
According to the bureau, four residents aged from 8 to 19 were suffering from fever, cough and running nose. They had already been to a clinic and none of them needed to be hospitalised.
Respiratory samples from the patients have been collected for laboratory tests. The SS said it has requested the children’s home to reinforce cleaning and disinfection as well as to maintain good indoor ventilation.
In response to the number of collective flu cases at schools or residential homes recently, both hospitals and Health Centres had seen an increase in the number of patients with respiratory infection.
The bureau said around half of the laboratory tests proved positive for the Influenza A (H1N1) virus, and the other half was Influenza B virus, which showed that “Macau has started to enter the influenza peak season”.
Deputy director of the bureau Chan Wai Sin said it is expected that the number of flu patients will be on a rise in Macau.
He also urged residents to get inoculated against A (H1N1) at any of the Health Centres, Conde de São Januário Hospital, Kiang Wu Hospital and the Workers’ Medical Centre.
The Health Centres are also providing seasonal flu vaccinations for all residents.
