Civil servants demand wage increase
The Chinese Civil Servants Association met yesterday with Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On to deliver a list of demands to be addressed in the 2010 Policy Address, including higher wages.
The president of the association, Monie Kuok, said that they “were willing to present their opinions to the Chief Executive for a long time.”
The list of demands included the update of the civil servant subsidies, which has remained unchanged for 20 years and the increase of the wages. “It is important to update the salary index to face the current inflation rate,” she said.
The association also suggested the restoration of the Government’s empty houses and their rental to the civil servants with lower wages. It also demanded the creation of a fund to support workers that suffer from chronic diseases.
