A colourful and jubilant “Parade through Macau, Latin City,” kicking off at 3:30 next Tuesday, December 20 promises to be “a large-scale event featuring magnificent performances from artists who cherish their native arts and culture”.
Organised by the Macau Cultural Affairs Bureau together with several other departments and associations to celebrate the twelfth anniversary of the Macau handover to China and establishment of MSAR, the parade will follow a route winding through the city’s old neighbourhoods with a Latin touch.
The performers will intermingle with audiences, and together they will follow the procession in the spirit of Macau’s centuries-old harmonious integration of East and West. Leading onlookers through the streets and alleyways they will be “introducing them to Macao’s Cultural Heritage, for a profound experience of the City’s multicultural charm”.
Artists from Mainland China, Portugal, Italy and France will be joined by performers from Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador and Costa Rica, among other Latin American countries, to highlight the harmonious fusion of Macao’s unique cultural characteristics.
Along with numerous local talents, they will set out on their performing journey from the city’s iconic Ruins of St. Paul’s, down rua D. Belchior Carneiro and Rua dos Artilheiros, and continuing on to St. Lazarus Church and surrounding district through brightly decorated streets and alleys until reaching the final destination on Tap Seac Square, where a joint performance will take place at around 6 pm.
For those who cannot join the parade, there is also a chance to watch: TDM (Macao Broadcasting) will transmit the live television broadcast.

(More detailed itinerary of the parade is included in our “What’s On” section, p.20-21).
