Rain may call off Moto GP

Adverse weather conditions have forced organisers of Macau Grand Prix to cancel yesterday’s qualifying session for the Moto GP. The extended session was scheduled to start at 7:15am yesterday, but the motorcycles were kept under cover the whole day due to a soaking wet track.
Friday’s qualification session has been moved to today, but riders and organisers alike are not hopeful that the bikes will be able to run, as any overnight rain will not have a chance to dry before the early morning session.
The Grand Prix committee again extended what was intended to be a morning warm-up into a 45 minute qualifying session. The 15-lap Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix is scheduled to take place at 3:30pm today.
However, weather forecasts call for scattered rain showers through the day, and the motorcycles do not go out on the street circuit when it is wet.
Macau Grand Prix committee co-ordinator João Manuel Costa Antunes has confirmed that the bikes will be kept undercover if it rains today.
“There is always hope,” he told Portuguese-language Radio Macau. “If the rain stops […] and the track dries out, the organisers will try to adjust the schedule, but always having in mind the safety conditions of the track,” he said.
