Weekend guide - Good Times: Take a Hike, set off to Coloane

Macau may no longer be as lush as it once was, but it is certainly still green enough to deserve respect and preservation efforts to maintain its best kept forested hills and parks.
Altinho, Seac Pai Van, and Ka Ho in Coloane are covered with a green mantle – nurtured by the high humidity – where butterflies, dragonflies, birds and wild flowers can still be found if you take the opportunity to look around.
Hiking is one of the cleverest ways to lead people into gaining awareness of what is each and everyone’s responsibility, by giving the preservation fight a multiparty effort ‘twist’ and linking exercise and sports practice with enjoying a healthy environment.
Trails in both islands were built in the 1990’s but not many people have been making use of the four nice trails in Coloane, winding along the slopes, rocks and trees for hiking or simple strolls, stopping at the stations and belvederes created along the way to enjoy the sight either to the sea and beaches or down the slopes.
So this weekend’s suggestion is an invitation to join the “Macau TrailHiker” tomorrow, 5 November as around 200 teams comprising over 800 people from Macau, Hong Kong and other Pearl River Delta cities set off on the trails to complete either a 30-Kilometre ‘Corporate Adventure’ or a 10-kilometre ‘Fun and Family Course.’
Both courses depart from The Venetian and competitors – warming up by 9.50am – have seven hours to make it back to the resort.
If you would like to participate but did not book in advance, registration will be open from 8.30am - 9.30am, before the start of the event tomorrow. Organisers have set a limit of up to 250 teams.
Net total of all paid entry fees will be donated to two local charities, the Macau Child Development Association (MCDA) and the Association of Rehabilitation of Drug Abuse of Macau (ARTM).
The two associations will split a minimum of MOP 200,000 with the possibility of more as many teams have been working hard to gather further sponsorship.
Have a nice hike!
