Four distinguished Chinese composers of contemporary folk music, will present the world premieres of their works in Macau at 8 pm, tomorrow, in a Macau Chinese Orchestra concert celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 1911 Xinhai Revolution in China.
New music compositions commissioned by the Macau Chinese Orchestra for this occasion at the Macau International Music Festival are to be presented at the Cultural Centre’s Grand Auditorium in this concert.
The renowned and extraordinarily talented erhu player Song Fei will perform as soloist in Kuan Nai Chung’s symphonic suite ‘Centenary Ceremony of Xinhai’, while other new compositions include ‘Beacon of Xinhai for folk orchestra’ (by  Liu Changyuan); Reminiscence for Soprano and Folk Orchestra (Hao Weiya) and ‘Symphonic Poem for Folk Orchestra – The Dawn (by Li Binyang). The Zhongshan Yueli Municipal Choir is to perform with the Macau Chinese Orchestra.
As a release of the organisers points out, the concert showing the “magnificence of the Xinhai Revolution, recreated amidst the splendid scenery of today’s China, beautifully illustrates the great transformation of the past century”, being one of the highlights of this year’s International Music Festival.
The Macau Chinese Orchestra, conducted by Pang Ka Pang, was set up by the Macau Cultural Institute (IC) in 1987, and it currently includes 34 musicians some with traditional Chinese instruments.
Performing regularly in concerts and special official events, locally and abroad, its repertoire covers a range of musical genres from traditional Chinese melodies to contemporary Chinese compositions. The MCC has premiered “Hard Separation” by He Zhan Hao, in a performance conducted by the composer himself, and other premieres include “Impressions of Mount Tai Hang” by Liu Wen Jin, “Spring River” by Xu Jin Xin, “Fantasy for Portuguese Guitar” by Kuan Nai Ching, and “Macau Rhapsody” by Simao Barreto.
