Do you remember the top-charted song “Do you really want to hear me”? How about “Karma Chameleon”? These songs and his androgynous style of dressing in the 1980s made Boy George, leader of the ‘Culture Club’, become a legend that is about to make its debut in Macau.
However, he won’t perform his rhythm and blues and reggae songs. Boy George will be spinning electronic beats tonight, starting at 10 pm, at the Lotus Club, the Venetian Macau.
Touring in Asia, DJ Boy George is bringing to Macau his renowned live DJ set. The English performer, 50 years old, was part of the English New Romantic movement, which emerged in the early 1980s.
His androgynous style of dressing caught the attention of music executive Malcolm McLaren, who was previously the manager of the punk British band Sex Pistols. McLaren arranged Boy George’s first group that was later renamed Culture Club.
Having become famous as such, George helped to give androgyny an international stage. His music is often classified as blue-eyed soul, which has flavours of rhythm and blues and reggae.
Boy George was very active in the music scene until the early 2000’s. He launched several solo works, founded and was lead singer of Jesus Loves You between 1989 and 1992.
Though having released fewer music recordings in the last decade, he has been busy in many activities, among them songwriting, DJ-ing, writing books, designing clothes and also photography.
Tonight’s supporting DJs are OnZ, Gordon and Fanco. Hong Kong famous models Chrissie Chau, Hidy Yu and Jeana Ho will attend the party.
