Film, video and emotions today at Portuguese Bookshop
The Portuguese Bookshop Gallery hosts from today until December 12, a Film & Video exhibition by the Human Emotion Project (HEP) International Artists.
The initiative, to be launched at 6.30 pm at the popular Gallery at Rua de São Domingos, marks the 2nd Anniversary of Art for All Society (AFA) and will present four different themes respectively in four weeks.
To have a glace at all the 42 video works presented by HEP, you will have to visit the gallery every week during this period. Until December 12, each week will show a different theme, exploring different topics, of which “Paradox” (14-20 Nov), “Loss & Desire”(21-27 Nov), “Transformation” (28 Nov – 4 Dec) and “Fantasy”(5-12 Dec).
“Paradox” investigates the contradictions between documentary and performance, fact and fiction, order and chaos. “Loss & Desire” explores the ambiguity of misplaced feelings from the philosophical aspect to the emotional. “Transformation” concentrates on the mystery of life changing, the spirituality of isolated gestures and sounds, being that the manipulation of these elements compose a space of reflection and intimacy. “Fantasy” draws inspiration from the apparent fascination of lively graphic imagery.
Artists from all over the world, including the United States, Sweden, United Kingdom, Israel, Jordan, Italy, Spain, Germany, Portugal and Canada, will showcase their video and film works, along local artists. José Drummond, Alice Kok, Ng Fong Chao, Cindy Ng and Bianca Lei will also participate in the project.
HEP, founded by Alison Williams, has been touring internationally: Australia, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Spain and Portugal. Macau is the fifth city to be visited and the AFA show will proceed to Beijing afterwards. The project will continue its showcases across the continents.
AFA set up the first local commercial contemporary art gallery in December 2007. Since opening, a total of 11 local art exhibitions were organised and over 200 latest local contemporary artworks were showcased. AFA has also launched the first Macau contemporary art centre in Beijing one year ago, exhibiting works by Macau artists and creating cultural exchange opportunities with other renowned contemporary artists in China.
The gallery is open from 11am to 7pm everyday (except Sunday). The exhibition is sponsored by the Secretariat of Social Affairs and Culture of Macau SAR and the Macau Foundation.
