The Butterfly Lovers, The Age of the Dragon Two concerts at the Macau Cultural Centre
Some of the most famous pieces of the Chinese classical repertoire in ‘The Butterfly Lovers’ concert are going to be played tonight at 8pm and again tomorrow, October 10, at 3pm.
Another concert, “The Age of the Dragon” for those who already managed to get tickets, will also be enjoyed tomorrow, hours later, in the same Grand Auditorium of the Macau Cultural Centre, by the Macao Chinese Orchestra.
Both concerts are included in the 23rd Macao International Music Festival and in the celebrations of the 60th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 10th Anniversary of the establishment of the Macao SAR.
Tomorrow’s “The Butterfly Lovers” concert is an additional concert by the Macao Orchestra meant to be a treat for those music lovers who did not manage to get tickets for the first one, tonight.
It is an unmissable opportunity to watch the brilliant performances by pianist Shi Shucheng, soloist in the historical ‘Yellow River Piano Concerto’, which he also arranged, and the eminent violinist Yu Lina, who debuted the ‘Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto’ fifty years ago.
As for the “Year of the Dragon” concert, tomorrow at 8 pm, the Macau Chinese Orchestra will play ‘Celebration’ by Zhao Jiping, besides the percussionist Kuan Nai Chung’s “Year of the Dragon” concerto, in a world premiere and other famous pieces for Dizi and Pipa.
The 23rd Music Festival is offering another special discount of 60 percent upon purchase of tickets for both The Macao Orchestra’s The Butterfly Lovers and The Macao Chinese Orchestra’s The Age of the Dragon concerts tomorrow.
Since last Sunday, October 6, a 40 percent discount was already made available on purchase of new subscriptions, namely tickets for two concerts, including The Butterfly Lovers by the Macao Orchestra, on this Saturday; the concert by the Academy of Ancient Music (United Kingdom), in Commemoration of the 200th Birthday of Joseph Haydn, on Sunday, October 11; the concert by the German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra (Germany), on October 24; or Mozart’s opera The Marriage of Figaro by the San Francisco Opera (USA), on November 6, 7 and 8.
