A Russian consul stopped for driving bizarrely on a Polish road was found to be 15 times over the drink-driving limit, but could not be busted due to diplomatic immunity, police said Monday.
The consul’s BMW was spotted on Sunday driving on a road near the Baltic port city of Gdansk, police spokesman Mariusz Sokolowski said.
“The driver was given an alcohol test. He had three grammes of alcohol in his blood,” Sokolowski told AFP.
Poland’s drink-driving limit is 0.2 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.
“Given that the individual had diplomatic immunity, he was not detained,” Sokolowski noted.
The red-faced diplomat did not take the wheel, however, as a chauffeur was called to the scene to drive him away.
