Following ‘World Environment Day’ on June 5, CEM has set the first day of each month beginning from June of this year as ‘CEM Car Free Day’, calling on staff “to walk, carpool, take CEM shuttle bus, use public transit, or ride a bicycle instead of driving alone, in order to reduce vehicle emissions and protect the environment,” the company said in a press release.
“This ‘Car Free Day’ isn’t meant for people to reject cars; rather, it aims to raise their attention to environmental protection and the feasibility of low-carbon lifestyles, so as to achieve a harmonious relationship between human, vehicles and nature,” they added.
“Over 200 people took part in this activity, among which 84 came to work on foot, 31 by carpool, 106 by the company’s shuttle bus and public transit, and 2 by bicycle,” CEM said.

Adelson presented with G2E Asia Visionary Award

The Global Gaming Expo Asia 2011 has selected Sheldon Adelson, chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp, as the recipient of the G2E Asia Visionary Award.
The award was presented by Frank Fahrenkopf, president of the American Gaming Association, and recognised Adelson’s key role in remoulding the gaming resort landscape of Macau and setting the stage for the next phase of development of the Cotai Strip.
In presenting the award, Fahrenkopf said: “Sheldon, on behalf of everyone in the gaming and entertainment business, thank you for your leadership, thank you for your vision. We are so proud to have you take the 2011 G2E Asia Visionary Award home with you”.
When interacting with the audience, Adelson emphasised that it was essential to provide amenities that could attract people for multi-night overnight stays. He added that it’s important to attract both business and leisure tourists that would “get on a plane, come here, spend several nights and bring a much higher gaming budget” than the mass market day tripper.
He went on to say that before new entrants came to the Cotai Strip they should be required to “put up that which will diversify the economy and that starts first and foremost with MICE space.”
