Three siblings aged between nine and 14 were killed in the Philippines by a machete-wielding suspect who also attempted to rape one of them, police yesterday said.
A 22-year-old male suspect was detained in connection with Thursday’s attack near the town of Alaminos, southeast of Manila, said provincial police commander Senior Superintendent Manolito Labador.
The 14-year-old girl and her two brothers were attacked at home shortly after their parents went to a neighbour’s party in the early evening, Labador said in a written report.
The couple found the mutilated bodies of their three children when they returned home shortly before midnight, while their third son, aged six, was left unharmed and asleep, he added.
Witnesses told police they saw the suspect loitering around the house after the parents left for the party, police said. They described the suspect as a fugitive who was being sought by police for another murder.
Evidence collected by investigators suggest the suspect had also tried to rape the girl, Labador said.
